MAKASSAR – Entrepreneurial activity at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) continues to grow through the management of business units, student innovation, start-up development, and the running of businesses within the university. These activities open up a space for learning for the academic community while also creating economic circulation that involves the area around the campus.
These efforts earned the Entrepreneurial Marketing Campus for Impact award as part of Makassar Marketing Festival 2026 at Sandeq A Claro Makassar on Thursday (13 August). The award from MCorp/MarkPlus Institute was given for Unhas’s active role in applying the values of Entrepreneurial Marketing: Creativity, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Leadership.
Unhas Vice Rector for Innovation and Business Management, Prof. Dr. Amir Ilyas, S.H., M.H., said the award reflects the development of the business ecosystem that Unhas has built, with success measured not only by the growth of business units but also by the values and impact they generate.
“This award shows that the business ecosystem we are building at Unhas has begun to take off. What matters is not simply how many business units we have, but how those activities produce innovation, open up opportunities, and make an impact on the economy around us,” said Prof. Amir.
The ecosystem runs through various business units and the university’s business management, including support from a holding company. At the same time, students are given space to develop business ideas, start-ups, products, and services based on potential and market needs.
For students, this entrepreneurial space offers experience in turning ideas into economic value. They can learn to read consumer needs, develop products or services, devise marketing strategies, manage finances, and build business networks through hands-on experience.
“This is the ecosystem we continue to build at Unhas. We want the entrepreneurial spirit to grow not only among students but also among lecturers and the wider academic community. They need to have space to develop ideas, turn knowledge into businesses, and deliver innovations that provide added value and real impact for society and the economy,” said Prof. Amir Ilyas.
For Unhas, the success of an entrepreneurship ecosystem is measured not only by the growth of business units. What matters more is how far innovation generates value, students gain productive experience, and economic activity moves in the surrounding area.(*/aya)
