Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) and the University of Rhode Island (the URI), USA, collaborate the development of Tridarma (Three Pillars of Higher Education of Indonesia) by launching the Graduate Certificate Natural Resource and Environment (NRE) program. The launching took place virtually using the Zoom Meeting application on Friday (03/09).
Director of Education of Unhas, Dr. Ida Leida Maria, SKM., M.KM., explained that the program is a manifestation of an academic agreement signed by the University of Rhode Island and Unhas, the Graduate Program of Environment study.
“After completing the Graduate Certificate NRE program, students are expected to join the split-site master or double degree program of Master Environmental Science and Management (MESM) at the University of Rhode Island,” explained Ida.
Furthermore, Dr. Ida said that the program is one of the excellent programs to increase the international reputation of Unhas. Moreover, The Graduate Certificate and Split Site Master program is the first program implemented by Unhas and university from the USA.
Previously, Unhas has been collaborating on double degree programs (Public Health, Management, and Accounting) with Universities from Australia.
“With this program, we hope to encourage the collaboration expanding to other study programs. Unhas and the University of Rhode share similar regional characteristics of the maritime and oceanic region. We also hope that the program takes part in developing the Graduate Program of Environment Study and internationalizing Unhas,” added Dr. Ida Leida.
The launching of the program was attended by the Rector of Unhas (Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, MA.), and Vice-rector for Research, Innovation, and Partnership (Prof. dr. Nasrum Massi, Sp.MK, Ph.D) and other leaders of Unhas. Vice Provost for Global Initiatives of the URI (Professor Gifty Ako-Adounvo), Dean of College of the Environment and Life Sciences (Dr. John Kirby), Director, Education Partnerships Asia, URI (Mr. Brook Ross), Partnerships Manager of IEP (Ms. Devi Diana), and four scholarship awardees from Unhas.
