Unhas Strengthens Global Research Collaboration through a Socialization of the Thematic Research Group (TRG) and the Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research (PAIR) Sulawesi.

The Institute for Research and Community Service of Hasanuddin University (LPPM UNHAS) held a Socialization of Collaborative Research for the Thematic Research Group (TRG) and Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research (PAIR) Sulawesi as a strategic step to strengthen the collaborative research ecosystem and expand Hasanuddin University’s international partnership network.

The event took place at the LPPM Hall, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, on Thursday (19 February). It was attended by the Rector, the Head of LPPM Unhas, university leaders, and research lecturers.

The Head of LPPM Unhas, Prof. dr. Muh. Nasrum Massi, Ph.D., Sp.MK(K)., explained that the socialization aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the TRG Collaborative Research scheme and to open partnership opportunities through the PAIR Sulawesi program. The initiative is part of the institution’s strategy to expand its research network and increase UNHAS’s contribution to the sustainable development agenda.

TRG is a research grouping model based on the university’s strategic themes, designed to encourage cross-disciplinary and cross-faculty collaboration. TRG not only consolidates the university’s flagship research themes but also builds a culture of cross-disciplinary collaboration.

“Through this approach, we hope to see research that is methodologically strong, relevant to community needs, and a significant, sustained contribution to improving UNHAS’s research performance and innovation,” Prof. Nasrum explained.

Meanwhile, the PAIR Sulawesi program, as part of the Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research initiative, opens space for collaboration between Indonesian and Australian researchers in addressing strategic issues in the Sulawesi region. The program emphasizes strengthening research capacity, exchanging knowledge, and developing evidence-based solutions.

“Through PAIR Sulawesi, we want to ensure that the international collaboration built produces concrete, impactful research outputs, not merely administrative cooperation. This is part of UNHAS’s research diplomacy at the global level,” Prof. Nasrum added.

The event was officially opened by Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc. In remarks, Prof. JJ affirmed that strengthening collaborative research is the main foundation for improving the university’s reputation and competitiveness, both nationally and internationally.

“A university’s excellence today is no longer determined by individual work, but by the ability to build solid and productive collaboration. Collaborative research is the foundation for delivering impactful innovation and raising the institution’s reputation on the global stage,” Prof. JJ stressed.

Prof. JJ also appreciated LPPM UNHAS’s role in integrating research development with the strengthening of facilities and in building togetherness within the academic community. According to Prof. JJ, strong institutional support and a representative collaboration space will create a productive academic atmosphere oriented toward performance outcomes.

The program also included the inauguration of the Al-Bahits prayer room (musholla) and the LPPM Lounge Room as symbols of strengthening a comfortable and collaborative work ecosystem. The event concluded with a warm communal iftar (breaking of the fast) that strengthened synergy among leaders, lecturers, researchers, and administrative staff.

Through this event, LPPM UNHAS affirmed its commitment to building an inclusive, competitive, and impactful research culture. The TRG and PAIR Sulawesi socialization is expected to serve as a catalyst for outstanding research proposals capable of addressing development challenges at the local, national, and global levels.
