MAKASSAR — Hasanuddin University (Unhas) will host a meeting of the leaders of State Universities (PTN) in charge of academic affairs. The 2026 Indonesian Universities Vice Rectors for Academic Affairs Forum is scheduled for Wednesday to Saturday, 16–19 September 2026.
The meeting, themed “Transforming Academic Governance in Higher Education: Strengthening Student Success, Student Admissions Governance, Graduate Competence, and Selection Integrity,” will discuss a range of strategic issues in higher education academic affairs, particularly in the context of state universities.
Committee Chair Prof. Muhammad Ruslin, drg., M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.B.M.Mf., Subsp.Ortognat.D, who is also Unhas Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, said the event is designed to strengthen collaboration and the exchange of good practices among universities in facing increasingly complex academic problems.
“Four strategic issues will be the focus of discussion at this meeting: the Educational Efficiency Rate (AEE) and Student Success, the proportion of new-student admission capacity, assessment weighting and graduate competency standards, and mitigation of cheating in new-student admissions,” said Prof. Ruslin.
The issue of the Educational Efficiency Rate (AEE) and Student Success covers benchmarking, factors behind delayed study completion, early warning systems, and strengthening the role of academic advisors and education management units. The issue of the proportion of admission capacity for national merit-based admission (SNBP), national test-based admission (SNBT), and independent admission (Seleksi Mandiri) focuses on regulation, study program capacity, input quality, access, equity, and study success.
Next, the issue of assessment weighting and graduate competency standards will discuss the alignment of learning outcomes, learning processes, assessment, and the objectivity and accountability of grading. The final issue is cheating and mitigation in selection exams, covering authentication, supervision, system security, and the prevention, detection, handling, and evaluation of violations.
According to Prof. Ruslin, beyond serving as a venue for exchanging information, the meeting is expected to produce formulations that can directly benefit the strengthening of academic governance in higher education.
“We hope to produce evidence-based recommendations that universities can act on, as well as input for strengthening national higher education policy,” added Prof. Ruslin.
To strengthen the national policy perspective, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is scheduled to attend and deliver a presentation at the forum. The Minister’s presence is expected to strengthen dialogue between government and universities, particularly in aligning higher education policy with the need to strengthen academic governance at the institutional level.
Through this forum, Unhas hopes to build stronger understanding and collaboration networks among university leaders, and to produce strategic recommendations that can drive sustained improvement in the quality of academic governance and in student success. (*/mir)
