The 24th anniversary (Milad) of the Contact Body of Islamic Study Groups (BKMT) at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) is not merely an annual ceremony, but a strategic moment to reaffirm the role of study groups (majelis taklim) in addressing social and spiritual challenges on campus.
Under the theme “Empowering the Ummah, Building the Nation,” the commemoration shows how religious spaces in universities can be transformed into empowerment centers that make a real impact on society.
Over 24 years of service, BKMT Unhas has consistently served as a platform for religious guidance that focuses not only on study activities but also on creating various social programs that reach different layers of society. This anniversary is also a space for reflection and evaluation of the organization’s contribution to building a collective awareness among the academic community of inclusive and transformative Islamic values.
Organizing Committee Chair Kumalasari Adi Maulana said in the report that BKMT’s long journey has produced various collaborations that drive social concern on campus. According to Kumalasari, BKMT stands as a pillar of community empowerment that consistently responds to society’s needs.
“Our commitment lies not only in the continuity of activities but also in the quality of the impact they produce. From this study group, we hope real contributions will emerge for the ummah,” explained Kumalasari.
In line with this, BKMT Unhas Chair Hj. Eminita Muskarini Sumbangan Baja stressed the importance of consistency in carrying out da’wah amid the dynamics of academic life. Hj. Eminita Muskarini Sumbangan Baja described BKMT as a spiritual oasis that provides balance for the academic community.
“Study groups must not stop at the study room. We must go further and bring real benefits to society,” Eminita said.
Eminita also added that empowering the ummah must begin with strengthening the quality of individuals. Shaping people who are intelligent, resilient, and of noble character (akhlak karimah) is regarded as the main foundation for driving sustainable social change.
The 24th anniversary is seen as a starting point for increasing the organization’s productivity. BKMT is expected to deliver programs that are more innovative, adaptive, and relevant to the needs of the ummah amid changing times.
The event was officially opened by Unhas Secretary Prof. Ir. Sumbangan Baja, M.Phil., Ph.D., who stressed the importance of maintaining silaturahmi (strong social ties) as the foundation of togetherness. Prof. Sumbangan said the main essence of the event is to build the quality of people while keeping the wider campus family united.
“Silaturahmi must continue to be maintained, but the most important thing is how we build people and keep the Unhas family united,” explained Prof. Sumbangan.
To close the event, a sermon was delivered by Ustaz H. Muchsin Ramlan, S.Pd.I., M.M., who reminded everyone that each individual has their own trials in life. Ustaz Muchsin pointed to the human tendency to be busy finding fault in others as a weakness to be avoided.
“Everyone has their own trials. Our weakness is that we are often busy looking for other people’s shortcomings, when what needs to be fixed is ourselves,” Ustaz Muchsin said.
The event took place at the LPPM Hall, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, on Tuesday (5 May). Also in attendance was Chair of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP), Hj. Hartati Tamti Jamaluddin Jompa, who is also an adviser to BKMT Unhas, as a show of support for the continued role of BKMT in strengthening religious and social values on campus. (*/mir)
