The Student Choir (PSM) of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) has once again earned a proud achievement. This time, PSM Unhas won first place at the international competition “World Choir Games Auckland New Zealand 2024” in the Folklore and Indigenous Music with Choreography category.

It is the world’s highest-level choir competition, held in the city of Auckland, New Zealand. The win was confirmed in an announcement on Sunday (14 July) at 12:00 local time.

In an interview, the choir’s coach, Ari Anshari Sanusi, explained that, to take part in the competition, PSM Unhas had made a series of preparations, including selecting singers through auditions among all active PSM members, followed by rehearsals of the competition repertoire.

“The preparations took about a year; we did a lot to take part in this competition. Going forward, we certainly hope PSM Unhas can keep competing internationally, because apart from the competition itself, these events are a great way to introduce Indonesia, Makassar and Hasanuddin University,” explained Ari.

Overall, PSM Unhas competed in two categories. In Folklore and Indigenous Music A Cappella, it performed Inninawa (Bugis), Si Patokaan (Minahasa) and Yamko Rambe Yamko (Papua).

For the Folklore and Indigenous Music with Choreography category, the songs performed were Pa’ Teinde (Toraja) and Langkan Maega (Toraja).

In the Folklore and Indigenous Music with Choreography category, PSM Unhas won first place with a score of 91.50. At least 40 countries took part in the competition. (*/mir)
