Hasanuddin University Expands Scholarship Access through Diverse Funding Partnerships

December 7, 2025 · 18:02 ·Admin KUI

Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) continues to expand opportunities for students to receive financial support for their education through scholarship schemes funded by a wide range of sources. In addition to scholarship funding from the central government, UNHAS develops partnerships with regional governments, foundations and philanthropic organizations, private companies, banks, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), zakat institutions, and international scholarship providers.

This initiative forms part of UNHAS’s commitment to promoting more inclusive access to higher education. By diversifying scholarship funding sources, students have greater opportunities to obtain financial assistance according to their needs, eligibility, and academic achievements.

Based on scholarship recipient data, the largest source of support comes from regional government scholarships, with 1,297 recipients. This figure highlights the important role of regional governments in supporting UNHAS students in pursuing and completing their higher education.

Meanwhile, central government scholarships reached 871 recipients. This support complements various government-funded educational assistance programs aimed at ensuring that students from economically disadvantaged families continue to have access to higher education.

Support from Multiple Sectors

Scholarship support for UNHAS students also comes from a variety of non-government partners. Scholarships from foundations and philanthropic organizations reached 224 recipients, while scholarships provided by private companies supported 131 recipients.

Other funding sources include scholarships from state institutions, supporting 91 recipients; the banking sector, with 69 recipients; and zakat institutions, with 56 recipients. In addition, scholarships from government or educational institutions supported 54 recipients, scholarships from state-owned enterprises (SOEs) reached 34 recipients, and international scholarships supported 19 students.

Overall, the data demonstrate that scholarship support at UNHAS does not depend on a single source of funding. Collaboration among the central and regional governments, private sector, social institutions, financial institutions, and international partners plays an important role in expanding the reach of financial assistance for students.

Towards the 25% Scholarship Recipient Target

Diversifying scholarship funding sources is an important strategy for UNHAS in pursuing its target of having 25% of its total student population receive scholarships. Achieving this target requires sustained support from multiple stakeholders, as students’ financial needs cannot be addressed through a single assistance scheme alone.

As scholarship opportunities from various sources continue to expand, more students will have the opportunity to continue their education. This support is expected to help students maintain continuity in their studies, improve their academic performance, and complete their education on time.

UNHAS views scholarships not merely as financial assistance but as an investment in human capital development. Therefore, strengthening partnerships with central and regional governments, philanthropic organizations, the private sector, banks, state-owned enterprises, and international institutions will remain an important part of UNHAS’s efforts to make higher education more equitable and accessible to a broader range of students.
