The Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) strengthened its international academic partnership with the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya, through a series of collaborative activities held during the Intercontinental Partnership Summit in Dentistry 2026, in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Regional Summit and the 3rd International Dental Summer Course (IDSC) 2026. The program featured an international guest lecture by Professor Dr. Noor Hayaty Binti Abu Kasim and a strategic research collaboration meeting led by Prof. Dr. Nor Adinar Baharuddin with the Faculty’s Thematic Research Groups (TRGs).
One of the highlights of the visit was the international guest lecture entitled “Dental Composites and Bonding Systems,” delivered by Professor Noor Hayaty at the Hasanuddin University Dental Hospital. The lecture was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students, residents, lecturers, researchers, and clinicians from the Faculty of Dentistry. During the session, Professor Noor Hayaty presented the latest developments in restorative dental materials, contemporary adhesive technologies, and evidence-based clinical applications of dental composites. She emphasized the importance of understanding biomaterial properties and adhesive protocols to improve restorative outcomes and the long-term success of dental treatments.
The interactive discussion allowed participants to engage directly with Professor Noor Hayaty, exchanging ideas on current challenges and future innovations in restorative dentistry. The session provided valuable insights into recent scientific advances while fostering academic interaction between Indonesian and Malaysian dental scholars. Complementing the guest lecture, Prof. Dr. Nor Adinar Baharuddin met with researchers from the Faculty of Dentistry’s Thematic Research Groups (TRGs) to explore opportunities for future international research collaboration. The meeting brought together researchers representing various disciplines within dental science, providing a platform to showcase ongoing research, discuss institutional strengths, and identify areas for multidisciplinary collaboration.
During the discussion, researchers presented their current projects and exchanged perspectives on emerging research priorities in dentistry. The meeting explored opportunities for joint research initiatives, multicenter epidemiological and clinical studies, collaborative publications in high-impact journals, postgraduate supervision, faculty and researcher exchanges, and international grant applications. Both institutions expressed a shared commitment to developing sustainable research partnerships capable of addressing regional and global challenges in oral health.
The academic activities also complemented the ongoing collaborative epidemiological research between the Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University and Universiti Malaya, further strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two institutions. By combining scientific knowledge sharing with strategic research planning, the visit reinforced a mutual commitment to advancing dental education, research excellence, and innovation through international collaboration. From an SDG perspective, this collaboration directly supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, particularly through the advancement of oral health research, knowledge exchange, and evidence-based dental care. The collaboration also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by providing students and academic staff with opportunities to learn from international experts and engage in knowledge exchange, while supporting SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through sustained international research and academic cooperation.
UNHAS continues to expand its global engagement by fostering meaningful partnerships with leading universities worldwide. Through initiatives such as international guest lectures and collaborative research meetings, the Faculty provides valuable opportunities for students, academics, and researchers to engage with internationally recognized experts while building a strong foundation for impactful research and educational collaboration in the years ahead.
