The Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), has once again demonstrated its commitment to global academic outreach by conducting an International Community Engagement (KKN) Program at Kaikoukai Healthcare Group in Nagoya, Japan. The Program, which runs from 8 July to 5 August 2026, involves 10 undergraduate medical students from the Bachelor of Medicine Program.
As part of the schedule, the students today completed a hospital tour and observation session across Nagoya Kyoritsu Hospital (Kaikoukai Healthcare Group), JCHO Chukyo Hospital, and Nihon Fukushi University. The activities provided participants with direct exposure to Japan’s healthcare delivery system, medical technology, and hospital infrastructure.
At Nagoya Kyoritsu Hospital, students received presentations on advanced medical technologies utilised in patient care, particularly in cancer therapy and rehabilitation. Participants observed the application of Gamma Knife technology, as well as facilities for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and Hyperthermia therapy.
Following this, at JCHO Chukyo Hospital, the students observed various healthcare services with a focus on emergency care. One highlight of the tour was the emergency treatment unit, which possesses specialized expertise in treating burn injury patients.
Beyond enhancing clinical knowledge and skills, the Program offers students valuable insights into the Japanese healthcare framework, professional workplace culture, and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
This International KKN initiative forms part of the ongoing international cooperation between the Faculty of Medicine, UNHAS, and Kaikoukai Healthcare Group, Nagoya, Japan, established through various academic and capacity-building ventures.
