MAKASSAR – Hasanuddin University (Unhas) continues to strengthen its human resource capacity as the main foundation for driving the transformation of an excellent and impactful university. Strengthening academic leadership, enhancing scholarly capacity, and reinforcing a performance-based work culture are important parts of efforts to accelerate the various strategic steps being taken.
The Rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., said that an institution’s progress is determined not only by systems and infrastructure, but also by the quality of people who can carry out their mandate with integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to shared goals.
According to Prof. JJ, every mandate entrusted should be understood as a space of service for delivering broader benefits to society. Therefore, the governance instruments attached to a position, from the oath of office and integrity pact to the performance agreement, must not be viewed as mere administrative formalities.
“Behind every oath of office lies a great moral commitment. If all the values contained in it are carried out consistently, I am confident that Unhas will move faster and grow stronger,” said Prof. JJ.
Prof. JJ further stressed that institutional transformation requires the courage to step out of one’s comfort zone. In facing an increasingly competitive higher education landscape, Unhas needs people who are productive, adaptable, and able to work collaboratively to achieve the university’s strategic targets.
Prof. JJ added that, as the largest university in eastern Indonesia, Unhas has a responsibility to be a driver of development based on knowledge and innovation. That role demands academics who are not only excellent in their fields but also able to offer solutions to the development challenges facing society.
“Unhas must be a light that illuminates universities, not only in the East, but even as far as the West. We want to prepare a generation of students who excel and are able to compete globally. The achievements we have attained, including Unhas’s current position within the top 850 universities in the world, must become motivation to keep moving forward,” said Prof. JJ.
That commitment was put into practice through the inauguration and swearing-in of new officials within Unhas, the presentation of Professor Decrees to lecturers who have reached the highest academic rank, and the welcoming back of lecturers who have completed doctoral (S3) programs.
The event, held on the ground floor of the Rectorate Building, Unhas Tamalanrea Campus, on Tuesday (9 June), is part of the university’s continuing efforts to strengthen the governance of an excellent and impactful university. On this occasion, the Rector of Unhas inaugurated and swore in 23 new officials across various faculties and strategic work units.
