On 11 May 2026, from 08:00 to 09:00 AM, an international guest lecture was successfully held at Lecture Theater 2 (LT 2) Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Hasanuddin University. The event featured Prof. Stefan Roth, a physicist from RWTH Aachen University, as the invited speaker.
Despite his main agenda of conducting an accreditation-related visit at the Department of Geophysics, Prof. Stefan Roth took the opportunity to deliver a guest lecture and share his scientific knowledge with the students. The lecture was attended by first- and second-year Geophysics students of UNHAS and was moderated by Saaduddin, M.Sc., Ph.D., a lecturer from the Department of Geophysics.
During the session, Prof. Roth discussed the derivation of P-wave and S-wave velocities based on the wave equation and Newton’s Second Law of Mechanics. He also introduced several other mechanical wave phenomena, including gravitational waves. The participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the lecture, especially during the Question and Answer session, where several students actively engaged in scientific discussions with the speaker.
The event provided valuable international academic exposure for the students and further strengthened academic collaboration in the fields of geophysics and physics.
