Prof. Dr. dr. Syafri Kamsul Arif, Sp.An-KIC, KAKV., a Professor from the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy of Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), became the President Director of the Central Public Hospital of dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo (RSWS), Makassar. The Minister of Health of Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, officially appointed Prof. Yafri at an inaugural ceremony on Monday (01/11).

As the new Director of RSWS, Prof. Syafri is committed to encouraging and developing RSWS to become an excellent Hospital in service, research, and education in Indonesia and international level, especially in Southeast Asia.

In an interview on Monday (01/11), Prof. Syafri explained the selection process that he has been through to obtain the responsibility as Director of RSWS appointed by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.

There were at least three stages that needed to be accomplished. First of all, candidates enrolled by submitting required documents related to personal information and curriculum vitae. Then, candidates went through the independent assessment related to managerial, socio-cultural, and technical competencies. The last stage was the interview by echelon 1 level officials from the Ministry of Health.

“There were five candidates, and Alhamdulillah I was chosen. RSWS is a Central Public Hospital directly supervised by the Ministry of Health. We certainly hope the hospital can become an excellent hospital and contribute to Indonesian health services,” explained Prof. Syafri.

RSWS is an “A” certified hospital, which means the hospital is equipped with complete equipment and services.  Prof. Syafri has a passion and commitment to making RSWS an excellent hospital in Southeast Asia.

RSWS has the potential to be the best. Moreover, RSWS as a public hospital has been actively collaborating with the University Hospital (RSPTN) of Unhas in terms of services, research, and education. This collaboration can be an effort to improve health services for people.

“Unhas has the Faculty of Medicine with several study programs, from medical education to specialist education.  Of course, with this collaboration with Unhas Hospital, we can provide an excellent service for people in Makassar and other regions in Southeast Asia. I strongly believe that our goal can be achieved by synergy and collaboration,” added Prof. Syafri.

Before the appointment, Prof. Syafri served as the Director of the University Hospital of Universitas Hasanuddin (RSPTN Unhas).  RSPTN Unhas has achieved many accomplishments and awards under his leadership. For example, RSPTN Unhas now provides the In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) program for people who have difficulty having children. The achievements are inseparable from his commitment to improving the quality of services for the Makassar people.
