About the Program

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialist Dentist Study Program is one of the specialist study programs at the Faculty of Dentistry, Hasanuddin University. This study program was established in 2018 as an effort to produce professional specialist doctor resources for handling oral and maxillofacial surgery cases.

Strengths

The advantages of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery study program are focused on developing marine biota materials through technological development and innovation to treat skeletal or maxillofacial disorders using tissue engineering methods. This is in line with the advantages established by the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Dentistry, which focuses on marine innovation dentistry, which is the result of a breakdown of Hasanuddin University's advantages listed in Hasanuddin University's 2030 long-term program, namely the development of maritime continental resources.

Areas of Specialization

The oral and maxillofacial surgery study program is a specialization in the field of dentistry that focuses on diagnosis, treatment, and surgery for problems related to the mouth, jaw, and facial structures. The following are some general specializations in the oral and maxillofacial surgery study program, including dentoalveolar surgery, preprosthetic surgery, oral and maxillofacial area infections, trauma both soft and hard tissue, cysts and neoplasms of the oral and maxillofacial area, congenital abnormalities, dentofacial growth and development disorders, implants, salivary gland disorders, cranial nerve disorders in the oral and maxillofacial area, as well as orofacial pain, temporomandibular joint disorders, osteodistraction, medically compromised conditions, mental handicap, physical handicap, and over-anxiety, and emergencies

Learning Process

• The curriculum contains courses, modules, and blocks that support learning outcomes (learning outcomes), gives students the freedom to broaden their horizons and deepen their skills according to their interests, and is equipped with descriptions of courses, modules, and blocks, syllabi, learning plans (RPS), and evaluation.
• The learning approach used is learner-oriented, problem-based, and based on professionalism in carrying out clinical actions, honing skills, evaluating treatment results, completing research, and participating in community service activities.
• Supervision of clinical cases at RSGMP UNHAS and network hospitals, both outpatient and inpatient, under the guidance of consultants. Participate in case conferences and seminars, play an active role in scientific activities at home or abroad, get published, take part in multidisciplinary scientific discussions,
• The final assignment is in the form of research that produces a thesis for a particular field of study according to the research tree and student interests.

Career Prospects

Graduates of this study program will become oral and maxillofacial surgeons and strong, creative, dynamic, and independent members of society. This study program will comprehensively prepare students (graduates) to be able to master science and technology so that they are able to solve problems in their fields comprehensively, both on a national and global scale, according to culture and the demands of service to society.
