UNHAS Expands International Partnership on AI and Vocational Education with Chinese Institutions

Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), through the Faculty of Vocational Studies (VOKASI), continues to strengthen its international engagement by establishing strategic collaboration with educational institutions and industry partners from China. The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to advancing vocational education, industrial talent development, and technology-driven innovation in response to global industry transformation.

The partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving Foshan Polytechnic, Guangdong Bangpu Recycling Technology Co., Ltd, Indonesia Buri Base, and the Vokasi. The collaboration forms part of the international “1 + 10 + 100 + 1,000 + 10,000 Project,” a program designed to enhance vocational education ecosystems through industrial collaboration, technology transfer, and human resource development in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation.

The MoU signing was conducted by the Rector of UNHAS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, accompanied by the Dean of the VOKASI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muh. Restu, during the “China–Indonesia AI + Cross-Border E-Commerce Localisation Training and Industry Exchange Program in Indonesia” held at Novotel Jakarta Pulo Mas on Tuesday (19/5).

Beyond institutional cooperation, the partnership is expected to create broader opportunities for applied research, industry-oriented curriculum development, professional training, and graduate competency enhancement. The collaboration also aims to prepare students and young professionals to compete within an increasingly digital and globally connected workforce.

During the event, Suparto from Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology highlighted the growing influence of artificial intelligence in reshaping industries worldwide. He emphasised the strategic role of vocational education in preparing future talent capable not only of understanding emerging technologies but also of driving innovation and transformation within industries.

According to Suparto, Indonesia and China share a common vision in developing future-ready human resources with strong competencies in AI and digital industry practices. Cross-border collaboration between educational institutions and industries, he noted, plays an essential role in accelerating knowledge exchange, strengthening workforce capabilities, and enhancing global competitiveness.

Through this international collaboration, VOKASI UNHAS seeks to further expand its global partnerships while reinforcing its role in producing industry-ready graduates equipped for the challenges of the digital and AI-driven economy.
