BANGKOK – The Faculty of Law of Hasanuddin University and the Faculty of Law of Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, are exploring stronger academic cooperation through student and lecturer exchanges, joint research, scientific publications, and collaborative academic programs.
The Unhas Faculty of Law (FH) delegation, led by Dean Prof. Dr. Hamzah Halim,SH.,MH.,MAP., was received by the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law at Chulalongkorn University, Assistant Professor Dr. Kanpirom Komalarajun.
Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Law Prof. Hamzah Halim expressed appreciation for the welcome extended by the Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Law. Prof. Halim said the visit gave the Unhas Faculty of Law an opportunity to present its academic capacity and to identify areas of collaboration that could be developed together.
“We are using this meeting to open broader space for collaboration, in both education and research. We hope these discussions can be followed up with concrete academic programs involving students and academics from both universities,” said Prof. Hamzah.
On the same occasion, Dr. Kanpirom expressed appreciation for the visit by the Unhas Faculty of Law. Dr. Kanpirom welcomed the openness of both institutions to building closer academic ties. In Dr. Kanpirom’s view, the meeting gave the two faculties a chance to get to know each other’s potential while discussing forms of collaboration that could be developed concretely.
“This meeting allows us to get to know the Unhas Faculty of Law better and to see opportunities for cooperation that we can develop together. We are open to building collaboration that gives students and academics of both faculties the opportunity to learn and exchange knowledge,” said Dr. Kanpirom.
Several areas of cooperation were discussed at the meeting, including student exchange, joint research and publications, faculty exchange, visiting professors, guest lectures, seminars, and joint academic programs. These schemes open the way for students and academics to gain academic experience in different educational environments and legal perspectives.
In education, one of the opportunities discussed was the development of a student exchange program. Students of the Unhas Faculty of Law and Chulalongkorn University could take part in academic activities at the partner institution. This scheme would give students the chance to understand legal perspectives from two countries with different legal systems and social contexts.
Space for collaboration is also open in research and scientific publications. The two faculties could develop joint research on legal issues of cross-border relevance, particularly matters concerning Indonesia, Thailand, and the ASEAN region. Such collaboration could bring together the expertise of academics from both institutions and broaden the perspective of legal research on regional issues.
Academic capacity building was also discussed through visiting professors, guest lectures, seminars, and other scholarly activities. Academic exchanges can broaden scholarly discussion, bring expertise together, and open new research networks for both faculties.
As a follow-up, the Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Law invited the Dean and the academic community of the Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Law to visit Unhas in Makassar. The follow-up meeting could be used to deepen the discussions and to formulate more concrete collaboration programs.
The cooperation between the Unhas Faculty of Law and Chulalongkorn University also opens room to strengthen academic connectivity in the field of law across the ASEAN region. Student exchanges, academic mobility, and joint research can broaden scholarly interaction and bring together legal perspectives from Indonesia, Thailand, and other countries in the region. The discussions took place at a meeting between the Unhas Faculty of Law delegation and the Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Law in Bangkok on Wednesday (16 September). (*/fh/mir)
