Hasanuddin University’s research productivity is once again showing a positive trend. In 2026, Unhas made it into the top 10 higher education institutions receiving funding under the Continuing Multi-Year Research Program through the Research and Community Service Information System (BIMA) scheme funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek).

On that list, Unhas ranks sixth nationally, with 65 research titles securing funding.

BIMA Research Funding is a research funding scheme that supports multi-year research at higher education institutions. Through this program, lecturers and researchers are encouraged to produce quality research that contributes to the advancement of knowledge and innovation, as well as solutions to a range of problems facing society.

The Secretary of the Unhas Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Ir. Suharman Hamzah, ST., MT., Ph.D (Eng)., HSE, explained that the BIMA research scheme gives researchers the opportunity to carry out research that can run for more than one year.

For this reason, the research funded in 2026 is a continuation of some of the proposals submitted in previous years.

Prof. Suharman added that LPPM Unhas consistently provides mentoring and evaluation for researchers so that research is carried out according to plan.

“Over the past few years, LPPM has continued to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation of research progress, including attention to the completeness of administrative accountability and the achievement of research outputs. This is important so that the use of the budget can be properly accounted for while also producing clear research outputs,” said Prof. Suharman.

Prof. Suharman further noted that science and technology remain the fields receiving the most funding under this program. This shows the strength of Unhas’s research capacity in these fields.

In terms of the composition of disciplines, research funding at Unhas is dominated by the agro-maritime cluster with a 53 percent share, followed by technoscience at 22 percent, health at 20 percent, and social sciences and humanities (soshum) at 5 percent.

As a strategy to improve research quality, LPPM Unhas also continues to remind and assist researchers in reporting their research in an orderly manner, including ensuring that the research outputs promised in their proposals, such as publications in scientific journals, are achieved in line with the set targets.

This achievement is expected to further strengthen the research culture at Unhas while encouraging lecturers to continue producing research that has an impact on the advancement of knowledge and the development of society. (*/dhs)
