Vice Governor of the Gorontalo Province Dr. Drs. Idris Rahim, M.M. along with the Province Secretary Prof. Dr. Ir. Hj. Winarni Monoarfa, M.S. along with their group accompanied by the Unhas Rector Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu, M.A., Friday (17/6) to observe the Universitas Hasanuddin Hospital. In the hospital, the group was greeted by the Hospital Unhas President Director Dr. dr. Andi Fachruddin Benyamin, Sp.PD, KHOM and Supervisor Board of the hospital, Prof. Dr. dr. Idrus A. Paturusi.
Idris Rahim along with his group made the visit to see directly the medical facilities contained in the Unhas Hospital, including Linier Accelerator (linac) used to cure patients of cancer using rays. They also had a close look at the “brachytherapy” (BT), an American-made equipment that Indonesia only has three of, including in Dr. Sutomo Surabaya Hospital, Siloam Jakarta Hospital, and Unhas Hospital.
Doctor Suherman Hadi Saputra, Sp. Onk.Rad explained the working procedures of the radioactive iridium to cure cancer. The equipment was a couple of years ago utilized for the cancer treatment of an American national that worked as a pilot for Garuda Indonesia.
During the visit to the cancer treatment room, a patient was present undergoing the cancer therapy, which looked similar to a large telephone handle.
Unhas Rector Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu felt the need to show directly the visitors of the facilities owned by the hospital, as the Gorontalo Provincial Government is currently in the process of constructing their hospital with the name Ainun Habibie Hospital. In cooperation with Unhas, Gorontalo Provincial Government plans in developing its human resources in the medical fields through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Post-Graduate Program of Unhas.
